She was born Jan. 5, 1926 in Chicago to Emil and Elna (Peterson) Bodeen. She married Thomas O'Brien on May 20, 1950 in Peoria. He passed away June 3, 1987 in Peoria. She was also preceded in death by her parents, twin grandsons: John and Allen Moser, and one brother, Dallas Bodeen.

Survivors include two daughters: Dottie (Scott) Taylor of Peoria, Kathi (John) Moser of East Peoria, one son, Jim (Lori) O'Brien of East Peoria, four grandchildren: Katie Taylor of Peoria, Hannah (Justin) Lambert of Washington, Jennifer O'Brien of Winston-Salem, NC, Tom O'Brien of East Peoria, three great-grandchildren: Lincoln, Hattie, and Lennon. She is also survived by one sister, Karen Hickerson of Carlsbad, NM, and one special nephew, Steve Bodeen.

Dot also had two special little buddies, her Boston Terriers, Ruby (deceased) and Emerald, who was her constant companion and food buddy.

Dot earned her Bachelor Degree from Western Illinois University and then her Masters plus 30 from Bradley University. One of her proudest accomplishments was during WW II she was recruited half way through college to teach in a 1 room country school house 1st through 8th grade in her home town of Lynn Center, IL. After the war she returned to complete her degree. She later taught for District 150 in Peoria for 37 years. Following retirement she kept teaching at daycares and her church for 14 more years for a total of 51 1/2 years total teaching. She was a member and very active as a Union Representative for numerous teacher associations including, IEA, NEA, and PEA. She was also a member of Glad Tiding Assembly of God Church in East Peoria.

Mom had a zeal for life always putting others first and herself last. She always served her Lord and savior Jesus Christ first. She served and led her family, friends, students and coworkers next. Having her as a mother, teacher and friend was truly a blessing from God. So many lives were impacted by knowing her that only God knows the amount. She now has a glorified body and is with her maker. Her kind spirit and compassion to serve and teach will always be with us.
