EAST PEORIA - Howard E. Bishop, 87, of East Peoria passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2017, at Riverview Senior Living Center.
He was born on December 8, 1929, in Springfield, IL, to Howard and Velma (Close) Bishop. He married June Ranney on December 26, 1951, in East Peoria.
Surviving are his wife, June; one son, William (Susan) Bishop of Tremont; one daughter, Linda (Dennis) Smith of Marion, IL; five grandchildren, Brian (Stephanie) Smith, Aaron (Brittany) Smith, Monica (Josh) McGill, Martyn Bishop and Wesley Bishop; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Pauline Bury of East Peoria....

He was born on December 8, 1929, in Springfield, IL, to Howard and Velma (Close) Bishop. He married June Ranney on December 26, 1951, in East Peoria.
Surviving are his wife, June; one son, William (Susan) Bishop of Tremont; one daughter, Linda (Dennis) Smith of Marion, IL; five grandchildren, Brian (Stephanie) Smith, Aaron (Brittany) Smith, Monica (Josh) McGill, Martyn Bishop and Wesley Bishop; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Pauline Bury of East Peoria. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James Bishop. Howard was a Korean War U.S. Army veteran, serving with Company A, 325th Tank Battalion. Howard retired in 1980 after working for 33 years in Heat Treat Inspections for Caterpillar, Inc. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in East Peoria. He was an avid bowler and golfer, achieving three holes-in-one. He was a lifelong Cubs fan and was very happy when they won the 2016 World Series.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 27, 2017, at First United Methodist Church, 154 E. Washington St., East Peoria, with Aaron Smith and Pastor Mary Arnold officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 27, at the church, with the memorial service at 11 a.m. Private burial services will be held at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.
